Warm Courgette and Feta Salad (Keto)

Courgette and Feta Salad Keto

“Just two ingredients! This is barely worthy of a blog post, but I wanted to share it anyway. I think it is a simple and tasty way to enjoy courgettes. Here, I fry slices of courgettes (cut approx. 1cm thick at an angle for more surface area) until caramelised. Then I serve it warm with a little feta crumbled over. If seasoned well, these caramelised courgettes are truly delicious and the full-fat feta adds a lovely creamy sharpness.” – Monya

Creamy Red Cabbage Bake (Keto)

Creamy Red Cabbage Bake Keto

“I love this creamy red cabbage bake! Not only is the flavour of baked cream so intoxicating, but different vegetables will offer varying textures. I especially like how red cabbage never ‘completely’ softens, so it offers some texture here. Remember, as with all my veg side dish ideas – be sure to enjoy it with a cut of meat or fish so you get your essential protein in. I always garnish my dishes with herbs I have at hand. This not only makes your presentation prettier, but it adds a fresh flavour dimension. With this recipe, you can use parsley or chives but I actually had wild rocket in the fridge which I chopped up. Rocket has a slightly peppery flavour, so this was a nice touch.” – Monya

Creamy Garlic Broccoli with Tomato Relish (Keto)

Creamy Garlic Broccoli with Tomato Relish Keto

“I love cream-baked broccoli! Its a simple dish which I throw together quite often. In this version, however, I enhanced the creamy mixture with soured cream and full-fat cream cheese. I then served the bake with one of my favourite homemade condiments: a quick relish made from finely chopped tomatoes and garlic. This dish is very rich and indulgent and will suitably serve 4 as a side veg option.” – Monya

Keto Courgette Cheese Fritters with Spicy Tomato Relish

Keto Courgette Cheese Fritters with Spicy Tomato Relish

“The spicy relish served with these courgette fritters really is the star of the show. It cuts through the richness and adds a spicy, sweet and acidic freshness. This recipe may be too rich served as a side dish, but it will make a great breakfast option. Squeezing all the moisture from the grated courgettes is essential: I use inexpensive muslin / cheesecloth. Be sure to check out the other Breakfast ideas on the site.” – Monya

Keto Creamed Spinach

Keto Creamed Spinach

“This fabulous keto creamed spinach is perfect alongside a juicy rib-eye. It serves two people, so double up the ingredients to feed more. I gently cook shallots and garlic for added flavour then add the spinach. It takes some patience and constant stirring, but the results are crazy-amazing!” – Monya

Cauliflower Rice (Keto)

Cauliflower Rice Keto

“This is a nifty way to mimic rice when you are serving a dish that needs sauces mopped up. I cooked down onions and garlic to add more flavour before adding and cooking the blitzed cauliflower. It’s high in fibre and filling. You can play around and pimp it using different freshly chopped herbs or flavoured oils, but this recipe below is a good ‘base’, so go wild. Be sure to also check out my Creamy Keto Cauliflower Mash.” – Monya

Creamy Cauliflower Mash (Keto)

Cauliflower Mash Keto

“Some may turn their nose up at mashing cauliflower to mimic The Great Potato, but you may just be converted. I didn’t just stop at using a potato masher, I added full-fat cream cheese and blitzed the mixture into a creamy puree. All it needed was a little seasoning and it’s perfect as a side dish. You could also use it like I did to top my Keto Seafood Bake and Spicy Keto Cottage Pie.” – Monya

Roasted Brussels Sprouts (Keto)

“I wasn’t always a fan of Brussels sprouts as a kid. I remember that I used to hide them under my napkin just so that I could be excused from the dinner table. What was I thinking? I LOVE THEM now! If you are not a fan of Brussels sprouts, you have probably been preparing them wrong. I sometimes finely slice them and fry them with grass-fed butter and bacon bits, or roast them until crispy (like I have done here) and serve covered with grated Parmesan. If you love Brussels sprouts as much as I do, please check out the Brown-buttered Brussels Sprouts recipe. Both are an excellent side dish to your protein to complete a healthy keto meal.” – Monya

Keto Courgette and Brie Soup

Keto Courgette and Brie Soup
Keto Courgette and Brie Soup

“Inspiration for this courgette and brie soup recipe came from my darling friend in Cape Town, Little Debbie Bryson who makes it at her sop-en-dop (soup and booze) party every year. Since moving to UK, I have sadly missed so many of them. This is for you LDB, I know it doesn’t compare to your version, but I slurped mine up with a longing lump in my throat. The recipe makes two hearty bowls, but you could make it stretch to 4 servings and enjoy it as a late-afternoon light meal if the macros are too high for you.” – Monya

Stir-fried Greens with Bacon (Keto)

Stir-fried Greens with Bacon Keto

“Everything tastes awesome with bacon with its lovely salty, smokiness. This side dish of stir-fried greens with bacon is sensational! A large portion of this could easily stand as a meal on its own, but it would be better for your macros if this recipe was made for two as a side dish and served alongside a nice portion of protein, such as pork chops. TIP: use only the sliced white parts of leeks as the green ends are bitter. Be sure to check out all the other Side Dishes on the site.” – Monya

Roasted Coconut Broccoli (Keto)

Roasted Coconut Broccoli Keto

“A super-simple two-ingredient dish of coconut roasted broccoli that ticks all the boxes as the perfect keto side dish. We have several times a week to accompany our chicken, fish or braai (BBQ) meat. And, we love it to the point of craving it! The stems soften and melt in your mouth, while the florets caramelise and crisp up. The best part is the heavenly coconutty flavour.” – Monya

Charred Padron Peppers (Keto)

Charred Padron Peppers Keto
Charred Padron Peppers Keto

“The first time I had padron peppers was in Barafina in Soho, London around 2015 or 2016. Funnyman and I were drowning our sorrows. I cannot recall exactly why, but I suspect it was something financial. The irony was that we sat in this restaurant for about 4 hours and ordered three-quarters of the tapas menu items washed down with plenty of wine. This was obviously in life before keto. Whatever was bothering us that night was soon forgotten (along with our financial common sense). However, it was the padrón peppers that were memorable for me. Eaten whole, this is a risky little appetiser as some are hot and some are not. They are simply the perfect appetiser for someone who likes to live on the edge and I was delighted when I saw they are now readily available at the supermarket. I have made this several times and never encountered a spicy one, so perhaps not that risky after all?” – Monya

Greek Village Salad (Keto)

“Funnyman took me to Santorini in 2015 where we spent 8 days in the sun, drinking Ouzo and eating our body weight in food! However, Greece did ruin tomatoes for me. The tomatoes there are simply heavenly – and any tomato you eat after visiting the Med will disappoint. If you can, opt for organic, deep-red, on-the-vine, and tomatoes that almost seem over-ripe. And, please don’t store tomatoes in the fridge.” – Monya
