Drinks

Just a summary of the recipes on Fats of Life that one would sip and not chew. They include smoothies, broths or ways I have pimped coffee…

Festive Cinnamon Warmer

This is an indulgent, creamy drink to sip on during the festive season! With hints of ginger and nutmeg, the predominant flavours are coconut and cinnamon – and they work beautifully together. I even added a little cocoa powder which offer some colour as well as a tiny nod to chocolate. I enhanced it with a little collagen powder to increase the protein, but that is entirely optional. Use as much natural sweetener as you need, but one tablespoon of my favourite one worked perfectly for me. Merry Christmas! PS: No judgement here if you decide to ‘optimise’ this drink with a tot of Brandy!

Breakfast Avocado & Berry Smoothies

I don’t believe in juicing (my reasoning: why on earth would you discard all that lovely fibre only to be left with high sugar juice??) – BUT, I do love a good smoothie! Smoothies are made in a blender (as opposed to a juicer) and retain all the lovely, glorious fibre of the ingredients used. Here, I blended high-fat, high-fibre avocado and added fresh raspberries to bring a sharp sweetness. This combo benefits with some additional sweetener (I used the fabulous Swerve®) and then some ice cold water to get the consistency just right. To make these an ultimate breakfast, I added MCT oil and collagen powder. Excellent.. tasty.. filling and so, so healthy. This recipe makes two large smoothies – and it takes less than 5 minutes to make. Enjoy!

Beefy Bone Broth: Elixir of Life

Beefy Bone Broth
Keto Beefy Bone Broth

There is a long process to making this glorious bone broth, but the results are worth it. Most of the time is really the pressure cooker doing its thing and the overnight bit is so that the broth can chill so you can easily remove the fat for a more clarified broth. Not only is the broth itself a tasty warm drink (an elixir of life, some say) with numerous health benefits I will leave you to Google, but you can also: Use the bones a second time; use the mince in a meal the next day (although the mince will require plenty of seasoning); use the scooped marrow from the cooked bones and spread it on toasted Quick Keto Chia Bread. Not only that, you can use this exact recipe below as a base to make my Concentrated Beef Stock Cubes. If you haven’t already invested in a pressure cooker, I advise that you do because mine was inexpensive and I get a lot of use from it.

Bulletproof Coffee (Keto)

Bulletproof Coffee
Bulletproof Coffee

I am one of those lucky ladies whose hubby brings me coffee in bed every morning. Also known as Caveman coffee, this is Funnyman’s version of our morning cuppa. One of these in the morning and I rarely eat breakfast because I am full and satisfied for many hours. (Some days I have two cups and it satiates me until dinnertime!) It is commonly made in a blender, but we are busy people and can’t be bothered: invest in a mini whisk and you will save yourself plenty of money and time because the most important thing is that the fats are emulsified in the hot coffee. I like sweet coffee, and use Truvia sweetener. If you are starting off, use only a teaspoon MCT Oil then gradually increase the amount to one tablespoon because too much too soon can sometimes go right through you – much like a bullet…
